Utah Jazz 2011-12 Season Preview
Posted 12/21/2011
The Utah Jazz changed the face of their franchise for years to come when they surprisingly pulled a trigger last season on a trade that sent star point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets.
Of course, that wasn't the only major change for Utah, which has a new head coach for the first time in two decades after Jerry Sloan decided it was time for him to step aside. Ironically, rumors have it that Williams' attitude and interaction with Sloan was part of the reason he decided to walk away.
The trade netted the Jazz some quality players, most notably Derrick Favors. The Jazz hopes he continues to develop and can form a formidable front line with Al Jefferson, Mehmet Okur and Paul Millsap.
The team also landed Devin Harris, who returns to the Western Conference. Harris has always been looked upon favorably, yet it seems like he can't seem to find a home. Maybe Utah will be a more permanent landing spot for him.
Utah is loaded with talent on the interior. Jefferson is a beast so long as he can stay healthy, Millsap is starting to bust out, and Favors has the highest ceiling of them all. The guard play could be a little shaky, and the Jazz definitely needs to find some better options out on the wing.
The Jazz is certainly a contender for a title, but it's going to take improved guard play and possibly a deal at the trade deadline for an elite scorer to take them to the next level. Utah seems to come up just a little bit short every year, but maybe this could be their breakthrough season. Fans are counting on it.
