News and Information
If you want to know what kind of season it has been for the Sacramento Kings, there is only one thing to know: The team has decided that everyone except for shooting guard Kevin Martin is on the trade block.

Ouch, it's been that rough for the rebuilding Kings. They have just 11 wins on the season and look poised to challenge for the worst record in the NBA and a shot at the No. 1 draft pick in June.

It's not as if this wasn't expected from a team just into its second year of rebuilding, but the hope was that some improvement would be noticeable. That hasn't happened, at least not yet.

Martin remains the backbone of the team, averaging 25 points per game. His scoring is important, but his lack of an all-around game is a little concerning. He averages less than four rebounds and three assists per game.

Outside of Martin, it's frightning what little talent can be found on this roster. John Salmons is the team's second-leading scorer. Yes, the same John Salmons who rode the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The team made it a priority to re-sign point guard Beno Udrih in the offseason, but I'm not sure that was such a great move. He is averaging just 10.9 points and 4.3 assists per game, hardly impressive numbers.

There is at least some young talent in Jason Thompson and Donte Greene, both 2008 draft picks.

Thompson has made the most impact so far, averaging 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He actually looks like he could be the answer at the center position for a long time to come.

Greene has been a disappointment, as he barely sees any minutes and is averaging just over four points per game. At the same time, everyone knew Greene would be a bit of a project after he left Syracuse following his freshman season. Think of Greene as on the Rudy Gay learning curve, but maybe a year or two behind.

Patience is the key word with this bunch, as another year or two of selecting in the top five of the NBA Draft will really increase the talent on the team and give them a chance to all star growing together into a playoff contender.
