Sacramento Kings 2009 Season Update The Sacramento Kings have been one the surprises this year in the Western Conference as they hang around the .500 mark.

Kevin Martin has turned into an absolute scoring machine, averaging over 30 points per game. He missed some of last season because of injury but seems no worse for the wear. What a find he was!

Speaking of finds, the Kings didn't do so bad in the 2009 NBA Draft.
Rookie guard Tyreke Evans is averaging 20 points per game, good enough for second on the team. Evans also leads the team in assists. He is going to be special.

Forward Jason Thompson is starting to take off in his second NBA season, averaging nearly a double-double per game.

My favorite player on the Kings is rookie Donte Greene. I think the kid from Baltimore is a guy that everyone should keep a close watch on. He has the ball skills of a point guard but the body of a small forward. If he could add more muscle, he could bulk up into a power forward.

The amount of youth on this roster is really exciting. The lack of any veterans at all on this roster is truly startling, but it's really best way to go about rebuilding a franchise into a contending team.

Even guys like Beno Udrih, Omar Casspi, Sean May and Spencer Hawes have some talent and will be interesting to follow over the next couple of years.

If a couple of those guys can develop into just solid reserves, the Kings won't have many holes to fill on their roster.

The Kings really don't have the horses yet to hang around the playoff race in such a tough conference, but maybe they manage to sneak in as the eighth seed. I have my doubts, but crazier things have happened.

Either way, Kings fans have to be excited about the team that is being put together. If they can keep Martin, Evans, Thompson and Greene together and let them grow, they could have a pretty special team in a few years.
