Portland Trail blazers 2008/2009 Season Update
Posted 2/10/2009
The Portland Trailblazers have followed up on a surprising performance last year with a strong start this season.

The Trailblazers started off scorching hot last year before eventually cooling off but managing to reach the all-important .500 mark.

The young but developing team has continued to improve this year and are now in great position to reach the playoffs. They are 32-20 and just a few games behind the Denver Nuggets for the division lead.

Guard Brandon Roy has become the leader of this team. He is averaging 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and more than a steal per game. He also plays great defense and makes everyone around him better.

Essentially, Roy does everything and anything it takes to win. He takes and makes the big shots to win games at the end and he provides invaluable leadership to a young team despite the fact he is only in his third year as a pro.

Forward LaMarcus Aldridge has developed into a better NBA player than many had predicted. He is the second-leading scorer at 17.6 points per game and also adds 6.8 rebounds per contest.

Another difference between this year's team and last year's team has been the sight of center Greg Oden on the floor. The rookie missed all of last season with a knee injury but has only missed a couple of games this year.

He certainly isn't making the type of impact everyone had hoped coming out of college, but he is averaging close to a double-double per game. The hope is that he continues to improve and eventually becomes a star. Only time will tell.

The depth of this team is simply amazing. To give you an idea, forward Channing Frye is playing just over 10 minutes per game after being one of the best players on the New York Knicks.

This is without a doubt one of the most exciting and fun teams to watch in the entire league because of the youth and talent that exists. Portland fans have a lot to look forward to for many years to come.
