The Portland Trailblazers saw injuries completely derail what could have been a fun and entertaining 2010-2011 season, but are hopeful to bounce back this year.
The team received very disappointing but not shocking news when star guard Brandon Roy announced his retirement. One of the better all-around players in the league, Roy has been plagued by serious knee problems since he first put on his Blazers uniform.
Without Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge is the top scorer on the team. Aldridge averages close to 21 points and 8 rebounds per game and has been a much better low-post player than anyone thought he would becoming when he left college. Marcus Camby provides the Blazers with one of the best low-post defenders and rebounders in the game.
Portland acquired power forward Gerald Wallace at last year's NBA trade deadline, and he is about as versatile as they come. I've always been a huge fan of Wallace because he can score from multiple places on the court, is a great rebounder and can block and alter shots.
The loss of Roy is huge, although it could be argued that the team really didn't count on him the past few years because of all of the injuries. Still, they are going to have to find a dynamic scorer on the wing, and that player simply doesn't exist on the current roster. They might able to make the playoffs, but it's hard to imagine them lasting past the first round.
