Oklahoma City Thunder 2011-12 Season Preview
Posted 12/21/2011
The Oklahoma City Thunder was oh so close to reaching the NBA Finals last year, a significant step forward for Kevin Durant and the rest of his young team.
Durant made it clear during the lockout how much he missed basketball and stayed on top of his game by playing pick-up games around the country with other NBA players.
The Thunder has a lot of good, young players surrounding Durant, most notably Russell Westbrook. However, there has been some concern that Westbrook is dominating the game too much and not getting Durant properly involved in the offense, leading to rumors that they may try trade him for a point guard like Chris Paul.
That said, Oklahoma City's problems aren't perimeter-oriented. The team has to get better on the inside, where Serge Ibaka. Kendrick Perkins and Nick Collison hold it down. Ibaka has improved tremendously, and the acquisition of Perkins should dramatically improve team defense so long as he can stay healthy.
Could this be the year that Oklahoma City takes another huge step and competes for an NBA title? It's entirely possible. The Thunder took a big step forward last year, and while the loss of training camp will certainly hurt, Durant and Westbrook should be able to carry them.
