New York Knicks 2009 Season Update
Posted 12/29/2009
The New York Knicks may have a new coach and a new plan, but the rebuilding process is a slow one to say the least.

As usual, chemistry problems won't go away for the Knicks. Head coach Mike D' Antoni has had his share of run-ins already this year with guard Nate Robinson, who seems more interested in playing for the Harlem Globetrotters than the Knicks.

D' Antoni has made it clear that he really likes Robinson as a person and has no problem with him, but he continues to sit him on the bench as a way of sending an important message.

Al Harrington has proven to be one of the team's better acquisitions in recent years and is leading the team in scoring. He has also managed to stay out of the headlines and out of trouble, which was a problem at times during his days with the Warriors.

Chris Duhon and David Lee, two of the team's most invaluable players when it comes to chemistry, lead the team in assists and rebounds, respectively.

Danilo Gallinari, a player who fits quite well into D' Antoni's system, is currently third on the team in scoring despite the fact he is just a rookie. His high shooting percentage from behind the three-point arc is the main reason why he has been so successful.

Jordan Hill, another rookie, also fits well in the system but has been much less effective so far. He is considered more of a project and reminds me of a David Lee type player but with a higher ceiling.

D' Antoni has tried to bring in the kind of players that fit his system, but there is still plenty of dead weight on this roster.
Players like Jared Jeffries and Larry Hughes have no real future with the team but are still seeing plenty of minutes.

Those guys fit his system from the standpoint that they are fairly athletic and can run, but they aren't good team-first players and don't have the ability to knock down outside shots on a consistent basis.

It's going to be another couple of years until this team can think about contending, that is unless they sign one of the big-name free agents this summer. Knicks fans can only hope that LeBron James decides to spend many future seasons in the Big Apple.
