New York Knicks 2010-11 Mid-Season Review
Posted 1/25/2011
The New York Knicks have been one of the pleasant surprises of the NBA season so far, hanging in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The team seems to have adjusted well to Mike D' Antoni's style of play, and Amare Stoudemire has more than replaced the lost production from David Lee.
A lot of analysts were critical of the decision to let go of Lee and sign Stoudemire for a much bigger deal, but it has definitely worked out in the Knicks' favor. Stoudemire is averging over 26 points per game while Lee has been underwhelming with Golden State.
Point guard Raymond Felton has thrived in D' Antoni's system, using the up-tempo offense to score over 17 points and rack up more than eight assists per game. It's amazing how much he has benefitted from a change of scenery and a different offensive system.
The Knicks are a bit erratic, which is somewhat expected given D'Antoni's system. With that said, New York could help themselves by picking up the intensity on the defensive end of the court.
If so, New York could end up with a four or five seed in the
Eastern Conference playoffs. Just a trip back to the postseason would delight New York fans, but they might even be able to get to the second round.
