The Milwaukee Bucks have been one of the surprising teams of the season so far, hanging tough in second place in the Central division.
The team is hanging around the .500 mark despite the fact that it has very few impact players and is in the process of rebuilding. If they can keep this up, they could find a way to sneak into the playoffs, which would be a terrific achievement for this group.
The Bucks are led yet again by shooting guard Michael Redd, but he has barely reached the double digit mark in games played because of an injury. That has forced the rest of the team to grow up in a hurry.
However, there is a new man in town. Rookie Brandon Jennings has taken the league by storm and has become arguably the team's best player. He is above and beyond what any team could have figured he would become so quickly and is the hands down favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. The voting wouldn't even be close.
Jennings leads the team by averaging more than 20 points per game and dishing out over six assists per contest. He also leads the team in minutes and is shooting a high percentage from behind the three-point line.
Center Andrew Bogut leads the team with almost 10 rebounds per game and is second on the club by averaging just over 15 points per contest. He will never become a star, but he doesn't need to. He is a solid player who will play good defense, rebound and be a threat to score in the low post.
After that, the roster is littered with young, inexperienced players and veterans with very little talent. Guard Luke Ridnour isn't bad but has seen a reduction in playing time because of Jennings' emergence.
Forward Hakim Warrick is a solid big man to bring off the bench but certainly not a player you want to lean on for a lot of production.
Warrick was a pretty good college player, but that doesn't always translate well to the NBA.
The Bucks certainly aren't ready to compete in the Eastern Conference, but they are anyway thanks to Jennings. If he can continue to play at a high level, the Bucks might just surprise some people and sneak into the playoffs.

Jennings Continues To Surpass Expectations

"If we make the playoffs, I should get rookie of the year."
From most rookies, that comment would be received as either absurd or big-headed. For Brandon Jennings, the point guard sensation for the Bucks, he may just have a point.
ESPN profiled Jennings as All-Star Weekend kicks off, revisiting the rook who opted to go overseas and play for the pros instead of going to college, saying that Jennings "isn't your typical rookie."
During his year in Italy, there were rumblings that Jennings wasn't adapting well as he fell out of favor with his coach and the rest of his team.
"Everything I've been through over there - not playing, having the reality that you're not bigger than anybody - I was humbled and that made me want to work even harder," Jennings says.
Now? He parlayed a year of Italian pro ball into the 10th overall pick in the NBA Draft, and a 55-point game in November.
As he participates in the rookies vs. sophomores game and the skills challenge this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for Jennings - he's the reason that the Bucks have hope once again.
Redd to miss two weeks with knee injury
Posted November 4, 2009 by Raj Sethi
On Tuesday, the AP reported that Bucks shooting guard Michael Redd is expected to miss two weeks after suffering a strained tendon in his left knee. He sustained the injury on a dunk attempt in Saturday's game against Detroit.
This clearly isn't how Milwaukee wanted to start its season. Redd is one of the few dependable veteran players on a team that should struggle to compete as it rebuilds. Still, in a top-heavy Eastern Conference, competing for one of the last playoff spots isn't out of the realm of possibility for almost any team, so a fast start would go a long way towards keeping a dwindling fan base interested.
In Redd's place, Charlie Bell slides into the starting spot alongside rookie point guard Brandon Jennings. Bell has experience running the point and Jennings is more of a shoot-first guard, so the two might actually work well together to help keep the Bucks afloat.
