Milwaukee Bucks 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/15/2010
The Milwaukee Bucks are the surprise team in the Eastern Conference this year, clinching the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.
Milwaukee finished in second place in the Central Division behind the NBA's top team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, some of the excitement surrounding their playoff berth has been tempered by the serious injury to center Andrew Bogut.
Bogut, who really came into his own this year, was seriously injured in a horrifying injury after he was pushed from behind going up for a dunk and his momentum caused an awkward fall from the rim.
Bogut dislocated his elbow and suffered other injuries to his wrist and hand and will not be available for the postseason.
While Bogut's play was a pleasant surprise, John Salmons and rookie Brandon Jennings have been the real stunners in terms of greatly exceeding expectations.
Salmons is leading the team in scoring by averaging nearly 20 points per game and Jennings carried the Bucks early in the season. He has since cooled off, but still remains one of the top candidates to win the Rookie of the Year award.
The Bucks have been able to emerge as a quality team despite the loss of star shooting guard Michael Redd early in the season to a knee injury.
Any hopes of a Milwaukee first-round upset has gone out the window with Bogut's injury, but it will at least result in some quality postseason experience for a fairly young team.
The Hawks, their first-round opponent, are simply way too athletic and talented for the Bucks to take out without arguably their two best players.
