The Miami Heat are still trying to pick up the pieces after LeBron James shocked just about everyone and announced he would not be back, instead opting to return home to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Heat didn't have a backup plan in case he left, simply hoping that James wouldn't bail on Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and an organization that helped to bring him his first two NBA championships.
Miami was able to re-sign both Wade and Bosh even though both players opted out of their contracts. Whether that was a good idea or not remains to be seen, but I have a feeling the Heat will regret their decision to bring both players back at such high dollars.
Bosh received a max contract despite being nowhere near a max player. He is a glorified jump-shooter at this point, and without James getting the ball to him, his efficiency will drop. Wade is constantly hobbled and a shell of his former self. It's almost as if they re-signed him only to give fans a reason to show up, to see a franchise legend's career wind down.
The Heat should still be able to sneak into the playoffs unless Wade completely breaks down, and depending upon seeding, an interesting first-round matchup against James and the Cavaliers is quite possible.
