Memphis Grizzlies 2011 Playoffs Preview The Memphis Grizzlies managed to hold it together and make the playoffs despite losing star Rudy Gay for the season with a shoulder injury.

The Grizzlies were surprisingly playing some really good basketball when Gay went down, and the media immediately predicted the demise of the team.

Instead, it seemed like Gay's teammates collectively picked up the slack to compensate for the loss of the lanky forward.

Zach Randolph seems to have found a home in Memphis, behaving himself on and off the court and becoming one of the top power fowards in the league. It has been nothing short of an amazing transformation.

Randolph teams with Marc Gasol to form a better-than-you-would-expect low-post tandem. They could cause some problems for teams that only have one good low-post player.

Fans and pundits alike balked at the ridiculous contract extension the team handed Mike Conley before the start of the season, and then watched in amazement as he transformed himself into a serviceable point guard.

Conley will probably never be the star some thought he would become after leaving Ohio State following his unbelievable freshman season, but he could end up as an above-average point guard.

O.J. Mayo and Tony Allen, of all people, have also really stepped up their level of play of late. Add in the underrated trade that brought Shane Battier to the Music City, and the Grizzlies have a nice little group of players.

It's been an overwhelmingly successful season for the Grizzlies, but it's going to come to a rather quick ending in the first round of the playoffs. They simply do not have the weapons or experience to hang with the big boys of the Western Conference.
