The Detroit Pistons are probably in for another rough season, likely missing the playoffs for the second straight year as Joe Dumars continues to reconstruct the team.

Richard Hamilton finally departed this offseason while Chauncey Billups and the Wallace's are long gone. Tayshaun Prince is the only significant holdover from Detroit's NBA title team, and it may be quite awhile before they can once again think about winning a championship.

The Pistons do have a couple of reasons for optimism. Greg Monroe is coming off an impressive rookie campaign that where he averaged over nine points and seven rebounds per game. Rodney Stuckey has been solid at point guard and continues to grow into the role.

Ben Gordon was Detroit's big free agent signing just a year ago, but he has failed to live up to the hype. Gordon is known for his explosive scoring ability, but he has been anything but instant offense in Detroit, barely averaging 10 points per contest. The Pistons have to find a way to get him going. Otherwise, it's hard to figure out how the team is going to score enough points to hang with most opponents.

The team also signed Tracy McGrady, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. He hasn't been terrible, but he is still a shell of his former self. It's sad to see what injuries have done to his career, as he was once one of the league's biggest stars and most feared scorers. The Pistons were more than happy to see him sign with Atlanta this offseason.

Detroit will be hard-pressed to compete for a playoff spot this year, but the lockout shortened season should at least keep them in the hunt for awhile. And it's always fun to go out and see the game!
