Dallas Mavericks 2011-12 Season Preview
Posted 12/21/2011
It seemed like the Dallas Mavericks were one of the top contenders for the NBA title for so many years, and each time their journey ended in heartbreak and disappointment.

It was only fitting that in the year in which they seemed least likely to make a run at the title that they would end up winning it all, validating Mark Cuban's tenure as owner.

It was fun to watch the Mavericks play so well together and really showcase the consummate team en route to the title, beating a trio of Heat stars. It was great seeing Dirk Nowitzki carry his team to a title and solidify his legacy.

You know Cuban would love to repeat, and despite bumping up against the salary cap, is still finding ways to improve the team. The Mavericks recently made a trade for Lakers forward Lamar Odom, giving them a versatile team player who can operate in the low or high post.

The Mavericks are a year older going into this season, but the fact that there will be less games played could ultimately work to their advantage. It also doesn't help that Caron Butler signed a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, though he was not a huge part of their title run because he missed the second half of the season and the playoffs with a knee injury. Still, fans will definitely get their money's worth this season watching their team trying to make it a two-fer.
