Chicago Bulls 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/15/2010
The Chicago Bulls overcame a terrible start to the season and outside distractions to hold off the Toronto Raptors for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Chicago finished right at the .500 mark, which is enough to be playoff-worthy in the East.
Their reward? A first-round date with the No. 1 Cleveland Cavaliers, who had the most wins in the NBA this season.
While reaching the playoffs is certainly an accomplishment, the big news with the Bulls these days focuses on a near brawl between their head coach and general manager.
Different stories are emerging from each side, but Vinny Del Negro and John Paxson had a disagreement over Joakim Noah's playing time after recovering from an injury and nearly came to blows to settle it.
While that media circus continues to grow, Del Negro is just trying to keep his team focused on basketball and trying to pull off one of the greatest upsets in NBA playoff history.
Derrick Rose has emerged as the team's leader, averaging more than 20 points and six assists per game.
Luol Deng scores nearly 18 points per game and is a nice compliment to Rose, but the team really lacks a big-time scorer.
Noah is the team's sparkplug, a guy who brings instant energy to the floor with him every night. Love him or hate him, he is going to give you everything he's got and more.
The key to the series is going to be if Chicago can find a way to slow down LeBron James. The Bulls really don't have a top defensive player who can match up with him, which is major cause for concern.
The Bulls certainly have some talent on their roster, and they actually might have more good players than the Cavaliers. The problem is they don't have James, so it will be one-and-done for Chicago.
