The Chicago Bulls were not expected to be a serious contender this year without the services of star point guard Derrick Rose, but the team had hopes that he might be able to give them a boost in the second half of the season.

Despite being cleared by doctors to play for several weeks, Rose continues to work out with the Bulls but has not played in any games. Rose is not expected back for the playoffs, though there is no guarantee he would play at a high enough level to give the Bulls a chance to advance.

Without Rose, this team doesn't have a prayer. The Bulls play great defense and are a rugged team, but they simply don't score enough points to beat good NBA teams on a consistent basis. When Nate Robinson and Joakim Noah are key cogs in your offense, you have serious problems.

Carlos Boozer and Tahj Gibson add additional presence in the low post, but neither player puts a scare into opponents. Boozer has been a major disappointment during his time in the Windy City and the Bulls are more than eager to get out from under his contract.

The Bulls might be able to grind out a series win in the first round thanks to the parity in the Eastern Conference and their strong defense, but that's about all that can be expected. Bulls fans will just have to sit tight and hope that Rose is ready to help them compete for a championship next season.
