Boston Celtics 2008/2009 Season Update The Boston Celtics are well on their way to another special season, sitting in first place in the division with a major cushion and laying claim to one of the best records in the NBA.

Many thought the loss of sixth man James Posey in the offseason via free agency was really going to put a hurting on this club, but they haven't missed a beat.

The Celtics continue to get solid contribution off of their bench for a number of guys, including Tony Allen, Eddie House, Leon Powe and Glen Davis.

For a veteran team like the Celtics, the regular season has little importance other than to assure themselves of home court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Celtics are very difficult to beat home, so home court advantage is huge for them.

Last year, it was Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce who led the charge to a title, with veteran Ray Allen's roll diminishing. Many though Allen was washed up, but he has come back strong this year and has been arguably the team's best player thus far.

The key for the Celtics is to still win games and enter the playoffs with momentum while also not running their veteran players into the ground. They don't want their top three players exhausted when the games matter the most.

Point guard Rajon Rondo has made a huge difference for this team. Just a couple of years ago, point guard was the team's biggest question mark, but now it is one of their biggest strengths.

Rondo is playing at an All-Star level on both ends of the floor and should only continue to improve.

Boston was pushed to the brink several times in the playoffs last year and managed to fight back. They defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 7, and it seems like the two teams might be destined for a rematch.
