Atlanta Hawks 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/15/2010
The Atlanta Hawks emerged on the scene last year as a tough out in the playoffs and are now ready to show that they weren't a one-year wonder.
The Hawks barely made last year's playoffs, sneaking in only to take the Boston Celtics to seven games before bowing out in the first round. This year, the team is older, wiser and more experienced. Not only that, but the Hawks are arguably the most athletic team in the Eastern Conference, if not the entire league.
Mike Bibby brings that steady veteran leadership at the point guard position even if his best days are probably already past him.
Joe Johnson also brings veteran leadership and plenty of playoff experience from his days with the Phoenix Suns. He has really helped elevate the Hawks from a doormat to a contender in the East.
Al Horford is one of the most efficient players in basketball and makes an impact in all phases of the game. Josh Smith and his length really bothers people on the defensive end of the floor.
Atlanta finished the regular season with more than 50 wins, good enough for third most in the Eastern Conference. It also was just a few games less than that of the top teams in the Western Conference.
The Hawks are probably the scariest team in the Eastern Conference because of the low expectations. Despite their 50-win season, all attention is focused on the big three teams of Cleveland, Orlando and Boston.
That neglect leaves Atlanta to lay in the weeds and wait to ambush any of the top three teams that decide to overlook them. They gained a lot of confidence from last year's playoff battle with Boston and will be looking to make a deep run this time around.
