Texas Rangers 2011 Season Preview
Posted 3/9/2011
The Texas Rangers struck out on their only offseason objective, leaving them without an ace at the top of their starting rotation.

Cliff Lee, who helped carry the Rangers to the World Series, was down to essentially a coin flip between returning to Texas or signing with the New York Yankees. Philadelphia then swooped in out of nowhere, and the rest is history.

Texas still has a lineup full of dangerous hitters. They lost veteran slugger Vladamir Guerrero to free agency, but signed third baseman Adrian Beltre after he ran out of options on the free agent market.

The team is hopeful that Josh Hamilton will be able to remain fully healthy this year. He missed a number of games last year, yet the team still managed to cruise to the American League West title.

The good news is that the Los Angeles Angels didn't make any major offseason moves. They did trade for outfielder Vernon Wells, but he isn't going to strike a great fear in anyone, including the Rangers.

Without Lee to lean on, the Rangers will have their share of problems, especially if they get to the playoffs. Look for a much closer battle this year between Texas and Los Angeles for the division title.
