Pittsburgh Pirates 2011 Season Preview
The Pittsburgh Pirates yet again changed managers in the offseason, but they have to do something about the players if they want to see an improvement in the standings.
The managers have changed plenty of times over the past 19 years, all of which have been losing seasons. At some point, the organization has to look at how they can put better players on the field.
There are some signs that improvement could happen any season now, as the Pirates have started to invest in their farm system and it's starting to pay dividends.
Players like Andrew McCutchen, Jose Tabata and Pedro Alvarez are the future of the team. They are young, talented and hungry, and give hopeless Pirates fans a reason to be excited about the organization.
The starting rotation remains a major concern, and there isn't much hope on the horizon. The Pirates signed Scott Olsen in the offseason, and maybe everything finally clicks for the talented left-hander.
It's going to be another ugly year for the Pirates, but they should show some improvement and climb closer to the .500 mark. It's hard to imagine a winning season given the top three teams in the division, but maybe the young talent really breaks through this year and at least makes it interesting.
