New York Yankees 2011 Playoffs Outlook
The New York Yankees come into the MLB playoffs as the AL East champion and the favorite to get to the World Series.
Pitching has been a big question mark at times for New York throughout the season, and they will have to rely on their offensive firepower for much of the postseason. The back-end of their rotation is most troublesome, and they will do all that they can to avoid throwing those guys out on the mound.
That said, they do have C.C. Sabathia to anchor the rotation and match up against any other ace teams will throw at them. However, he may actually be the underdog when he takes the mound in the opening series against the Detroit Tigers.
Justin Verlander has been an absolute monster this year, and the potential for him to pitch at least two games in their five-game series has to terrify the Yankees and their fans. If he is on his game, he is virtually unhittable.
It's been quite awhile since the Yankees have won the World Series, and anything short of such is considered a total disappointment. The same is true this year, and anything less than a trip to the World Series would be a major embarassment.
