New York Yankees 2010 Playoffs Preview
It's October, and that must mean the New York Yankees are set to make yet another run at a World Series title.
After a long drought (by Yankees standards) without a World Series title, New York finally hoisted the championship trophy last season, quieting a fanbase that was getting anxious to once again be on top of the baseball world.
The Yankees are back in the postseason looking to defend their championship and win back-to-back World Series titles, but they weren't able to take the American League East title away from the Tampa Bay Rays. Instead, by losing on the final day of the season, the Yankees will have to settle for the wild card.
It certainly won't be easy, especially with some of the team's injury concerns. First baseman Mark Teixeira is dealing with a broken toe that stings with nearly every move that he makes. Pitcher Andy Pettitte has also missed extensive time, and he is as clutch as they come in the playoffs.
Shortstop Derek Jeter is starting to show his age and has been really scuffling of late. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez put up good numbers this year, but they fell well short of totals from previous seasons.
It seems like it will likely come down to the Rays and Yankees in the American League, with the winner the heavy favorite to win the World Series.
