Minnesota Twins 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 10/4/2010
Despite a long absence from first baseman Justin Morneau, the Minnesota Twins have weathered the storm to take the American League Central title.
In what is considered one of the weakest divisions in baseball, it seems like the Central is up for grabs every year between the Twins, White Sox and Tigers.
Minnesota used to take advantage of a big homefield advantage in the Metrodome, but they moved into a new home this year. It hasn't made a difference, as the Twins have been just as tough at Target Field.
Francisco Liriano has come on strong, especially after the first couple of months, to put himself in consideration for the Cy Young award. He won't win it, but he has been invaluable to his team.
The most pleasant surprise this year is reserved for outfielder Delmon Young, who seems to have suddenly overcome maturity and plate discipline issues. The result is a breakout season that makes him one of the top run producers in the game.
The Twins probably don't have the firepower or the pitching depth to hang with the Yankees or Rays, so look for a quick exit from the playoffs.
