Milwaukee Brewers 2011 Season Preview
Posted 3/9/2011
The Milwaukee Brewers held onto first baseman Prince Fielder in the offseason, meaning they probably have one more season to make a run with the slugger.
There is absolutely no chance that Fielder re-signs with the club, so if the Brewers get off to a poor start, look for them to aggressively shop the first baseman.
Knowing this is their last shot with Fielder, the Brewers didn't hesitate to make major upgrades in the offseason. The traded for ace Zack Greinke, who should thrive in the National League, and also pitcher Shawn Marcum.
Marcum isn't a household name, but he could become one if he can stay healthy while facing National League lineups. He's pitched well in the American League East, but injuries have derailed his career.
Scoring runs won't be a problem, with Fielder being protected by hitters like Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks. The Brewers also have high hopes that third baseman Mat Gamel breaks out in 2011.
Everyone talks about the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, but the Milwaukee Brewers are just as much of a threat to win the division. They made the most upgrades out of any team in the division in the offseason, and should hang around in the race all year long.
