The Milwaukee Brewers surprised just about everyone by controlling the NL Central for much of last season only to collapse over the final two months and fail to even reach the postseason.
Things won't get any easier for the Brewers this year when you consider that the Cardinals are just as good as they usually are, the Pirates are becoming an annual contender and the Cubs look ready to take a huge step forward.
Milwaukee is hopeful that Ryan Braun can bounce back and perform like an MVP-caliber player. Braun struggled last year because of a thumb injury, though many suspect it might have to do with the fact he was no longer using PEDs.
With Braun taking a step back, Carlos Gomez has become not just the team's best player, but one of the top outfielders in baseball. He can do it with both the bat and the glove, but he also needs to stay healthy.
The starting rotation leaves a lot to be desired. Matt Garza is the club's ace and can pitch like it at times, but has bouts of inconsistency and injuries are always a concern. Kyle Lohse is slated as the No. 2 pitcher, which is never a good sign.
The strong start to last season should give the Brewers hope, but it seemed like more of a fluke than anything else. The division is only getting more competitive, so it looks like they will fight to stay out of the cellar.
