Kansas City Royals 2011 Season Preview
Posted 3/9/2011
It seems like it's been quite awhile since the Kansas City Royals hired Drayton Moore to be their general manager, and baseball pundits seemed to think the organization was on its way back.

Fast forward to now and you would have a hard time telling this year's club apart from the one we have seen for more than a decade. Either Moore's job is tougher than first though or he isn't up to the task.
It might be a little of both.

The Royals finally parted ways with ace Zack Greinke in the offseason They traded him to Milwaukee, opting to get a haul of prospects while they can rather than start paying him the big bucks in arbitration. It might not be a bad move given Greinke's mental instability, but he is a great young pitcher.

Alcides Escobar was the prize of the package and is expected to begin the season as the club's starting shortstop. He won't blow you away with the bat, but he should be fun to watch in the field.

Billy Butler returns after a tremendous 2010 season, and he is one of the only bright spots for the club. Alex Gordon remains very talented and hopes are still high for him, but will it finally all click this season?

Barring a miracle, Kansas City will spend the season battling with the Cleveland Indians to avoid the cellar in the division. The Indians are probably a couple years ahead of the Royals, so expect a last place finish.
