The Miami Marlins were once again one of the worst teams in baseball in 2013 and attendance continued to reflect that fact, but there are some reasons for hope moving forward.
The Marlins remind me a lot of the Astros, a club with a bright future that has a ton of talent in its farm system and some of it is starting to make its way to the major leagues.
Jose Fernandez is the start of that talent trickling to the big league club, and he had an unbelievable 2013 season. He has already established himself as the best young pitcher in all of baseball, an ace that Miami can build around.
In the outfield, there is plenty of talent. Giancarlo Stanton is still with the club despite the fact his salary will start to soar going forward, but it's important that he shows he can stay healthy for a full season. There is also a lot of expectations for Christian Yelich, who got his first taste of the big leagues last year.
Miami is going to be an improved club and maybe even a bit of a darkhorse in the NL East if everything comes together. If nothing else, they look like a team ready to climb out of the cellar.
