The Florida Marlins traded away their star second baseman in the offseason but also managed to land some players who will be solid contributors.

Florida traded Dan Uggla to the Atlanta Braves, opting to get something in return rather that let him walk via free agency or meet his big contract demands. The 'Fish certainly lost some power, but Omar Infante is a fine addition.

They added a veteran presence to their starting rotation in Javier Vasquez, who has fared much better in the National League than the American League throughout his career. They also signed catcher John Buck, who is coming off of a tremendous season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hanley Ramirez is still the team's leader, and maybe he has finally matured after last year's run-ins with the former manager. He will put up great numbers, but they are looking for an MVP-type season from him.

The biggest concern is the arm of Josh Johnson, a Cy Young candidate who was shut down at the end of last season. If Johnson goes down with another serious arm injury, it will be a big blow.

The Marlins remain very young and talented, but can they take that next step? If everything comes together, they could hang around in the division title race until August or early September and make a run at the wild card.
