Cincinnati Reds 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 10/4/2010
The Cincinnati Reds have emerged as one of the surprise stories of the baseball season and have run away with the National League Central title over the final two months of the year.
Everyone expected the St. Louis Cardinals to once again win the division, but the Reds have clearly been the better team over the entire course of the season.
Aroldis Chapman could be an X-factor in the postseason. The Cuban flamethrower was called up several weeks ago after dominating in the minor leagues and has given a boost to the starting rotation.
The offensive attack has been led by first baseman Joey Votto, a legitimate MVP candidate. Not only has he put up huge offensive numbers, but he is a good defensive player and has contributed several game-winning hits.
The Reds will need his clutch bat to come up with key hits in the postseason. It would also be beneficial if superstar-in-the-making Jay Bruce can continue to smack the ball like he has over the final month of the season.
Cincinnati still lacks that dominant arm at the top of their rotation, so running into a team like Philadelphia that can throw ace Roy Halladay out on the mound every third game would be bad news.
