The Boston Red Sox failed to make the playoffs in 2010, so they took care of business in the offseason to make sure they wouldn't have any such worries in 2011.

To be fair, the Red Sox were decimated by injuries. Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia ultimately suffered season-ending injuries that sucked the life out of the Boston lineup.

The Red Sox signed outfielder Carl Crawford to a huge contract in the offseason, taking one of the best players away from a key division rival. They then went out and traded for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, allowing them to shift Youkilis over to third base.

Gonzalez seems like a perfect fit for Boston, especially with the extremely short right field porch down by Pesky's Pole. Crawford gives the Red Sox a great one-two punch at the top of the lineup with Pedroia.

The rotation remains somewhat of a concern, but the Red Sox are hoping for a big bounce-back year from Josh Beckett. He has been bothered by injuries the past couple of seasons and some are worried that his best days are already well behind him.

The Red Sox are the favorite to win the division over the Yankees and to get to the World Series. It seems like just about everyone expects a Boston-Philadelphia showdown for the championship.
