Boston Red Sox 09-10 Season Recap
Posted 10/17/2010
The Boston Red Sox turned out to be one of the major disappointments of the 2010 season as they failed to reach the postseason.

The Red Sox were hit hard by the injury bug, which is certainly a huge part of the reason why there will be no excitement in Boston in October. First baseman Kevin Youkilis missed half of the season after breaking his wrist while second baseman Dustin Pedroia missed even more time with a broken foot. To add to the problems, ace Josh Beckett missed a lot of time with a sore back.

Anytime you lose two All-Stars from your infield and the ace of your pitching staff, it's going to be nearly impossible to overcome. It's that much more difficult in the American League East.

The team's free agent acquisitions came with mixed results. Third baseman Adrian Beltre exceeded all expectations, but pitcher John Lackey looked nothing like the former ace of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Red Sox will certainly have some holes to fill in the offseason, but they can take comfort in the fact that their stars should be healthy in time for spring training.
