Arizona Diamondbacks 09-10 Season Recap
Posted 10/17/2010
The Arizona Diamondbacks finished about where everyone anticipated before the start of the season; in the cellar of the National League West.
There were hopes from some that Arizona's younger players would mature quickly and the team might be able to hang in the middle of the pack in the division, but rebuilding projects usually aren't a quick fix.
One positive development was the progress of center fielder Chris Young. Considered one of the most talented young players in the game, Young got off to a hot start before cooling considerably later in the year.
Still, there was an increase in his power numbers, his average rose substantially and there was a significant decrease in strikeouts.
There is still plenty of room for improvement, but at least the Diamondbacks can see some positive signs.
The Diamondbacks also received significant pitching contributions from young starters Daniel Hudson and Barry Enright. They were able to at least try to pick up for some of the production lost with Brandon Webb still sidelined by an arm injury.
Arizona heads into the offseason looking at another year of rebuilding, so don't expect the club to be active on the free agent market. Nonetheless, look for the team to win a few more games next year.
