Los Angeles Angels 2011 Season Preview
Posted 3/9/2011
The Los Angeles Angels struck out in their attempt at a big offseason addition, but made a trade that should certainly help them in 2011.
The Angels appeared to be locked onto free agent outfielder Carl Crawford, and many thought they were the favorite to land him. Then the Red Sox entered the bidding and quickly signed Crawford, leaving Los Angeles out in the cold.
The Angels are often criticized for being too passive and afraid to pull the trigger on trades and signings. To try to appease the fanbase, the team traded for Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells.
Of course, the team's biggest addition is a player who was already on the club. First baseman Kendry Morales was having a great season when he tore his ACL celebrating a walk-off home run when he stepped on home plate, ending his year. He is expected to be 100 percent in time for the start of the season and will give the Angels the big bat they were missing for much of 2010.
The Angels have to be thrilled that Cliff Lee didn't re-sign with Texas, opening the door of opportunity in the division. They still don't seem quite as strong as the Rangers, but should give them a run for their money this time around.
