Things haven't gone according to play for head coach Al Groh and Virginia since he became the head coach, and 2006 may have become the new low point.

The worst part for Groh is that the future doesn't exactly look any brighter. The ACC isn't getting any easier and Groh isn't exactly brining in a lot of top notch recruits.

The result could be the end of Groh's tenure in Virginia, although the administration said last season that the head coach has their full support and won't be going anywhere.

The good news is at least Virginia returns with a quarterback who started last season. Jameel Sewell was less than impressive last year, throwing for just five touchdowns in his sophomore season. He doesn't have the strongest of arms, but his ability to take off downfield with the football adds another dimension to his game.

His best rushing game of the season came against Maryland, where he rushed for a touchdown and fell just short of the 100-yard mark. He almost single-handedly beat the Terps before the Cavs came completely undone in the second half.

However, the experience he gained last year can only help him going into this year. The problem is, who is he going to throw the ball to? Kevin Ogletree was the team's leading receiver, but his graduation leaves a huge void of playmakers for the Cavaliers.

Ogletree isn't the only big loss on offense. Running back Jason Snelling has also moved on, so Groh is going to need to find a playmaker coming out of the backfield as well. Not only was Snelling the team's leading rusher, he was also the second leading receiver.

The schedule certainly doesn't help either. Virginia's out of conference schedule should be a breeze, but their ACC foes will provide a much greater challenge. The Cavaliers have to play at Maryland, N.C. State and Miami while also having to face Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech at home.

It looks like it could be another ugly year for Virginia. Because they have 12 regular season contests, the Cavaliers could become bowl eligible, but don't expect anything more than a 6-6 season in Charlottesville. Another season like last year could mean the end of the Groh era.
