North Carolina Tar Heels 2010-11 Basketball Season Preview The North Carolina Tar Heels were one of college basketball's biggest disappointments last year after failing to even reach the NCAA tournament.

Instead, the Tar Heels had to settle for playing in the N.I.T., which obviously did not sit well with their fans. North Carolina made it to the championship game before falling short, but that hardly mattered to their supporters.

The disappointing season was a perfect storm given that the Tar Heels had to watch their bitter rival, the Duke Blue Devils, go on to win the national championship. Things really couldn't get much worse in Chapel Hill.

While it's highly unlikely that North Carolina will be a national championship contender this season, they should be much improved and make their way back to the NCAA tournament.

The Tar Heels should be able to at least push Duke for the ACC crown and finish near the top of the conference standings. They should also be ranked all season long, maybe even cracking the top 10.

Top recruit Harrison Barnes is expected to come in and have an immediate impact. If nothing else, he should give fans some hope and a reason to be excited about the upcoming season.
