2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Preview
Posted 12/7/2011
The Michigan Wolverines and Virginia Tech Hokies will face off in the All-State Sugar Bowl on January 3 at 8:30 p.m.
In terms of exciting BCS matchups, this rates as somewhat of a dud. There will certainly be some excitement surrounding Michigan's revival and return to the BCS picture, but Virginia Tech always seems to be really good but not great. Both teams lack the excitement factor you look for in these types of matchups.
Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is the one reason to tune in for the game. He is going up against a pretty good Virginia Tech defense, and it will be interesting to see how much success he will have running the ball. Robinson has improved as a passer this year, adding another dimension to his game.
Virginia Tech would have gone undefeated this season if it wasn't for Clemson. The Hokies lost both their regular season and conference championship matchups against the Tigers, and neither was particularly close. You really have to wonder about the coaching in the second meeting between the two teams.
Robinson will likely be the x-factor in this one. If he gets going, Michigan should be able to sneak past Virginia Tech. Otherwise, expect a low-scoring affair.
Prediction: Michigan 20, Virginia Tech 19
