2009 Rose Bowl Predictions
Posted 12/22/2008
The Southern California Trojans will take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Rose Bowl on January 1 at 5 p.m. in Pasadena, California.
This used to be the most prestigious bowl played, and it is still highly regarded, but it has lost a little bit of its luster now that there is an official national championship game and it is not rotated each year around the four major bowls.
USC has had a strong season that was ruined by their only blemish: a stunning, Thursday night loss at Oregon State.
In fact, by year's end, many around the country felt that the Trojans very well could be the best team in the country. USC this year could be considered a poster child for the reason that college football needs a playoff system.
Penn State's season has somewhat mirrored USC's in that one blemish has really put a damper on things. Penn State looked to be heading to the national championship game before a devastating, one-point loss at Iowa.
Both team's have a very good defenses, but USC's is just at another level than any other team in the country.
The two offenses are also very solid, but the edge has to go to USC and their stable of running backs.
Prediction: Southern California 24, Penn State 13
