2009 Poinsettia Bowl Predictions
Posted 12/22/2008
The undefeated Boise State Broncos will take on the Texas Christian Horned Frogs in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego on December 23 at 8 p.m.
This is a fantastic matchup between Boise State's explosive, high-powered offense and the stingy TCU defense. Believe it or not, this is a game featuring the No. 10 and No. 11 ranked teams in the country.
This is a tough situation for the Broncos, who missed out on a BCS berth and now must play in underrated team in bowl game that lacks a lot of luster. The Broncos are used to playing in big bowl games, especially after their huge upset over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl just a few seasons back.
It's essentially a lose-lose situation, as a win over TCU would be the expected outcome but a loss would prove to prognosticators that Boise State was overrated all along.
Make no mistake about it, TCU is no pushover. They went 10-2 while playing in a difficult conference, losing out to Utah because of a 13-10 loss. Their only other loss on the year came at Oklahoma, losing a respectable 35-10.
However, the Boise State offense and their moxie from playing in big games should be enough to get past the pesky Horned Frogs.
Prediction: Boise State 27, TCU 20
