2011 Advocare Independence Bowl Preview
Posted 12/7/2011
The Advocare V100 Independence Bowl features a matchup between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Missouri Tigers at Independence Bowl Stadium in Shreveport, La., on December 26 at 5 p.m. (ET)

The North Carolina Tar Heels are a year removed from all of the mess surrounding their players receiving gifts and being declared ineligible, but the controversy didn't end there. The Tar Heels finally decided to fire head coach Butch Davis, inserting Everett Withers as the interim coach.

The Tar Heels weren't the only team in this game that had to adjust after last year. The Missouri Tigers had to learn to live without quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who is now spending his Sundays starting for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

North Carolina has lost four of its last six games while Missouri has won three straight. This seems to be a case of two teams going in opposite directions. Speaking of directions, this is Missouri's last game as a member of the Big 12. They move to the highly-competitive SEC next season.

History is on Missouri's side, as the Tigers have won both previous meetings against North Carolina.

Prediction: Missouri 24, North Carolina 17
