2009 AT&T Cotton Bowl Predictions
Posted 12/22/2008
The Mississippi Rebels will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Cotton Bowl on January 2 at 2 p.m. in Dallas.
The Cotton Bowl is one of those games that has really lost a lot of luster after being one of the most prestigious of the bowls for many years.
With the game in Dallas, Texas Tech should have some type of homefield advantage. Mississippi isn't that much further away, so expect the Rebels to bring a strong number of fans as well.
This is a good matchup of two teams from major conferences that each had fantastic seasons in their own right. Speaking of their conferences, both teams are from the two top conferences in the country as well.
Mississippi lost four games but all were close. They also can hang their hat on handing the Florida Gators their only loss of the season, in the Swamp no less.
Texas Tech lost just one game this year, an embarassing defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners. Their biggest win was a comeback victory in the final seconds against Texas.
Mississippi's bread and butter is their defense while Texas Tech has one of the most explosive offenses in the nation, so it will be an interesting clash of contrasting styles.
Prediction: Texas Tech 31, Mississippi 23
