2012 Capital One Bowl Preview The South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Capital One Bowl on January 2 at 1:00 p.m.

The Gamecocks looked like they could be champions of the SEC East and play for a conference championship and BCS berth this year, but things went downhill in a hurry when quarterback Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team and star running back Marcus Lattimore tore knee ligaments.

South Carolina's stingy defense and big, explosive wide receivers did enough to carry them this far and they did close out the year winning six of their last seven, including wins over Florida and Clemson, with their only loss coming to highly-ranked Arkansas.

Nebraska has been inconsistent as well, which is really a reflection of their starting quarterback. Taylor Martinez is on fire one week and the toast of Lincoln, but the next week he plays poorly, the team loses and the fans want him removed as their starting quarterback. It also doesn't help that Nebraska's defense has not been as stout as it has been in past seasons.

The Cornhuskers come into the game having only won two of their past four contests, and matching up against a good, physical defensive team is probably not the best matchup for them.

Prediction: South Carolina 20, Nebraska 13
