2009 Capital One Bowl Predictions
Posted 12/22/2008
The Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Michigan State Spartans in the Capital One Bowl on January 1 at 1 p.m. in Orlando.
For most teams, a 9-3 season would be a major accomplishment. For Georgia, it was a major disappointment.
The Bulldogs were mentioned by many as a legitimate national championship contender in the preseason but was trounced by Alabama in its first matchup against a quality team.
Georgia went on to get crushed by the Florida Gators and then choked away the season finale against the rival Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford is one of the top NFL prospects at this position, but he hasn't put up the type of numbers you would expect from someone so highly regarded.
The Michigan State Spartans had a solid year in the Big 10, but they were thumped in their only three games against top tier teams. The Spartans lost a close one to California at the beginning of the year but were embarassed by Ohio State and Penn State to close things out.
Georgia was disappointing as per usual, but they still went through the SEC guantlet and only lost to two of the best teams in the country. They should take care of the Spartans.
Prediction: Georgia 37, Michigan State 24
