2009 BCS national championship Predictions
Posted 12/22/2008
The BCS championship game between the Florida Gators and Oklahoma Sooners will be played on January 8 at 8 p.m. in Miami.
This is a matchup of two, high-powered offenses led by two talented head coaches who are no stranger to playing in big games. Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer have both won national championships at their respective schools and are certainly hungry for another.
It also features two of the three finalists for the Heisman Trophy in quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow. Tebow won the award last year but finished third this time around, with Bradford laying claim to the award for the country's best player.
Florida was able to win the SEC championship game over an undefeated Alabama team without star playmaker Percy Harvin. They will have him back for the national championship game and it will make a big difference.
While the offenses tend to steal the show, it is their defenses that often played a major role in their big victories this year. Oklahoma's defense shut down Texas Tech and then Missouri in the Big 12 championship game while the Gators put the clamps on Florida State and a host of others to push their way back into being a national title contender.
This game is likely to come down to which team makes more plays in crunch time and the turnover battle. Most of the time, the team that loses the turnover battle ultimately loses the game.
While Bradford may have on the Heisman Trophy, I think Tebow is ultimately going to win the national championship.
Prediction: Florida 34, Oklahoma 30
