The Sprint All-Star Race was formerly known as the Winston until it gained sponsorship back in 2004, when it became the Nextel All-Star Challenge until 2008.
The All-Star race features the top drivers in NASCAR competing at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. The race was also run once at Atlanta Motor Speedway back in 1986.
The event is open to any driver who won a race in the current or previous season, as well as as the past 10 winners of the All Star race and anyone who won the Cup championship in the last decade.
Because the race does not count for points in the regular Cup standings, it makes for much more exciting action as drivers are willing to take more risks than they usually would. This makes it a great event for NASCAR's biggest fans.
It also features an interesting format which forces pit stops during certain windows during the race. This puts an emphasis on the pit crew and shows that NASCAR isn't just about the star behind the wheel.
