Women's Speedskating Olympic Preview
Posted 6/29/2009
While men's speedskating has been an Olympic sports since 1924, the women didn't get involved until 1960.

There are currently five different events in the long track speed skating, ranging in distances from sprint to marathon.

There are events for 500, 1,000, 1,500, 3,000, and 5,000 meters, which differs slightly from the men.

The United States has had significant success in the sport and took home eight medals in the 2006 Olympics.

Bonnie Blair really put women's speedskating on the map, as she dominated the sport during her time.

She won five gold medals and a bronze in Olympic competition, making her one of the most decorated U.S. Olympians of all time.

You can be sure that the team will once again be looking to do serious damage at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
