While not exactly the most traditional skiing event, ski jumping is certainly one of the most exciting.

There are few things more thrilling than watching someone without any poles and with ski's on their feet take off like an airplane from a steep, icy launching pad hundreds of feet in the air.

Athletes try to jump as far as they possibly can before landing cleanly on a decline. The athlete who jumps the farthest is declared the winner.

It's mesmerizing to watch the skiers sail through the air with the greatest of ease while contorting their body in such a way so as to cause as little body resistance as possible. Skiers keep their hands together behind their backs until the instant they land, when they put them out from their sides for balance purposes.
