The men's figure skating long program is both a test of endurance and skill and is the second and final event in the competition.

It is the lasting impression for judges, as the long program typically takes place following the short program in Olympic competition.

However, many skaters don't even reach the long program, as there is often a cut following the short program that eliminates those competitors who are far behind the leader.

Those that due tend to be grouped according to how well they performed in the short program to determine in what order they will each skate for the short program.

The performance is to last exactly four minutes and 30 seconds. If the program is shorter or longer than the time period allotted, points will be deducted from the skater's score.

The United States men's team did not fare well in the past Olympic Games, failing to come away with a single medal.
