Believe it or not, women's ice hockey is one of the fastest growing women's sports in the world.

The number of participants in the sports has grown over 350 percent over the past 10 years.

The popularity of the sport will most certainly be on display at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

It all began back in the 1800's in Canada, as women's hockey began to burst onto the sports scene.

The sport grew from there, although the women adoped some significant rule changes that make it different from the men's game.

Women are required to wear full face masks on their helmets and body-checking was made illegal.

Women's hockey made it's debut as an Olympic sport back in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.

The United States began its dominance of the sport that year, taking home the gold medal. Canada won the silver while Finland took the bronze.

The United States and Canada have formed an intense rivalry and the two teams have decided the gold medalist in every Olympics.
