News and Information
Who doesn't love the bobsled?

This event can came in the form of four-person or two-person teams, and both the men and women can compete. However, only the men compete in the four-person event.

The amazing thing is how fast these sleds are traveling. The top speed during competition is 130 kilometers per hour.

Interestingly enough, the host country is always guaranteed of having a team compete even if they couldn't qualify for the event. That means Canada is automatically entered into the 2010 Olympics.

Over the history of the event at the Olympics, Switzerland has been the team to beat. They lead with 30 medals overall, including 11 gold.

The United States has fared well, winning the third-most medals overall. They have won 18 total medals, including six golds. Germany sits in second place with 16 total medals but seven golds.

It was Germany that dominated last year's events, winning all three gold medals. The United States finished with just a silver medal. I'd expect Germany to be right in the mix again this year.

You can bet the house that the United States will be coming into the 2010 Winter Games looking to improve upon last year's disappointing results.

I urge you to check out the bobsled at the Winter Olympics. It really is one of the most exciting, unique events out there.
