Washington Society comes out in full force for inaugural balls
throughout the Washington, DC area. President-elect Trump has chosen to hold
only 2 “official” balls – a departure from the 10 official balls President
Obama held in 2009. These 2 official galas are ticketed events open to the
general public and sponsored by the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC).
There is also an official ball – the Salute to Our Armed Services Ball – hosted specifically, and exclusively, to honor
the U.S. armed forces, veterans, and first responders.
The official PIC Balls have historically been attended by the new
President and Vice President. The location of these events, along with any
details about dining and entertainment, is still to be announced by the PIC.
In addition, there are several unofficial balls around town celebrating
the incoming administration. These events are organized by state societies,
non-profit and other professional, trade or military organizations. The new
President and VP are invited to these unofficial galas, but their attendance is
not guaranteed. Tickets are required for ALL these events, which vary from
Black Tie affairs to themed galas. Fine food, cocktails and all manner of
entertainment – from live music to dancing to Boardwalk games and photo booths –
is in store for party goers eager to celebrate the new President.
Washington, DC, is fortunate to have an impressive selection of
historic and iconic venues in which to hold these inaugural celebrations.
Several museums, hotels and other historic buildings in and around the
Washington metro area are booked to host these balls.
