To say the Washington Redskins 2013 season was a trainwreck would be putting it nicely, as almost everything that could have gone wrong did, and they didn't even get a good first round pick out of it.
Because of the trade for RGIII, the Redskins were without their first-round draft pick, which would have been a top five selection given how poor they finished in 2013. To make matters worse, RGIII's return from a torn ACL didn't go as planned, as the quarterback struggled to throw the ball and opposing defenses adjusted to take away much of his running ability.
Mike Shanahan struggled to make adjustments and his relationship with RGIII soured, forcing Dan Snyder to make a choice between the two, obviously choosing the young quarterback. The team replaced Shanahan with Jay Gruden, formerly the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals.
This year will be all about the development of RGIII. If he can bounce back, the Redskins could be a darkhorse in the very weak NFC East. If he doesn't, concerns about his long-term outlook will rise.
